DETAILS: This workshop provides an excellent opportunity for Boy Scouts who have an interest in archaeology to excavate the past in historic Newtown. Scouts work directly with an archaeologist learning about the science of archaeology by participating in an excavation at the historic Clark Nature
Center. This hands on program teaches the fundamental concepts of archaeological methods and how to uncover the secrets of the past. This activity meets the requirements
of the Archaeology Merit Badge with the exception of the individual research projects number 4, 5 and 7. If completed at home by the scout may be brought in for approval on the day of the event. Participants should bring the merit badge worksheet, kneeling pad, garden gloves, a small mason’s trowel (not garden trowel), lunch and a drink. Participants should wear closed shoes and bring a notebook and pen. A certificate for completing the field training will be awarded.
